How the degradation engine works

Understanding what happens under the hood helps you get the exact results you want. Every effect runs in a specific order for the most natural degradation.

Step 1

Pixelation (Resolution Reduction)

The image is drawn at a reduced resolution (original width divided by pixelation factor), then scaled back up with image smoothing disabled . At 8x, the image is rendered at 1/8th size then blown up, creating sharp pixel blocks. This is the foundation of the deep fried look and the most effective way to obscure faces and text for privacy. Blur (Downscale-Upscale Softening)
